Winter Storm Watch For Blizzard Conditions Has Been Issued…

Here is the latest from the National Weather Service in Des Moines about the Winter Storm potential for our area…

A Winter Storm Watch for blizzard conditions has been issued for portions of north central into west central Iowa for late Wednesday night through Thursday.

Rain is expected to transition to snow across northwest Iowa during the early morning hours Thursday, and across central and southern Iowa during the morning Thursday. Snow is expected for much of the day Thursday.

Temperatures will quickly fall with the onset of snow, with northwest winds increasing to become strong and gusty. Blizzard conditions will be possible across the watch area Thursday due to the strong winds, snow and blowing snow.

Total snow amounts in the watch area of 3 to 6 inches are expected with locally higher amounts possible.

A Winter Weather Advisory will likely be issued at some point for areas to the south and east of the watch area where lighter snow amounts are expected with areas of blowing snow still possible. These areas will be fine-tuned in later forecasts today into Wednesday.
