A strong spring storm system will initially bring much warmer weather to Iowa beginning on Thursday. Scattered thunderstorms are possible Thursday night with an isolated severe storm possible. A greater threat for severe weather arrives late Friday morning and into the afternoon. Large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes all are possible. Storms will be moving at 50 mph or greater.

Strong winds will develop by Thursday afternoon with gusts over 40 mph possible. The gusty winds will persist into Friday. the strongest winds will occur Friday afternoon and evening behind a cold front that will be passing through Iowa. Wind gusts during this time period could exceed 50 mph at times.As temperatures drop off on Friday behind the cold front, snow will fall across part of far northern Iowa where light accumulations of 2 inches or less are possible.
