Community coming together to mourn the loss of Clear Lake basketball coach’s son

12-year-old Beckett Peterson made a lasting impact on all who knew him and will be missed by the Clear Lake community and beyond.

Beckett, who was born with a mitochondrial disorder, is the son of Bart Smith, a physical education teacher and the head girls’ basketball coach at Clear Lake High School. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 21st.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with funeral expenses, lingering medical bills and the remaining funds will be used to establish a memorial scholarship in Beckett’s name. Close to $4,000 has been raised in one day.
