One day after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a heart attack while playing in Cincinnati, his family has issued a statement in which they thank fans for the outpouring of support for the ailing player.

“On behalf of our family, we want to express our sincere gratitude for the love and support shown to Damar during this challenging time,” reads the statement, which was issued on Tuesday. “We are deeply moved by the prayers, kind words, and donations from fans around the country.” The statement goes on to say more than 150,000 fans have made donations to Hamlin’s charity toy drive fund — for a total of $4 million.

The family promises to give updates on his condition “as soon as we have them.” The statement came just hours after the Bills revealed Hamlin was “currently sedated and listed in critical condition” after collapsing on the field in a skirmish with Bengals wideout Tee Higgins. “His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment,” according to the Bills.
