Experts: Scorching Temps are ‘the New Normal’
The record high temperatures that have been baking the Southwest are “the new normal.”
That’s according to a climatologist with the University of California, who says dry soil caused by the region’s “megadrought” has changed things permanently.
“When the soil is wet, heat waves aren’t so bad,” says Park Williams. “But if it’s dry, we are under extreme risk.”
The planet is trapping roughly double the amount of heat in the atmosphere than it did nearly 15 years ago, according to an alarming new analysis from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration https://t.co/PnxhyGIOsr
