FAA Finds Cause Of Nationwide System Failure
The FAA says last week’s nationwide outage was caused by deleted files.
The agency says contractors working on its NOTAM system accidentally deleted the files while working on the database.
The outage forced the FAA to ground all domestic flights for hours – the first nationwide groundstop in the U.S. since 9/11 – and resulted in more than 10,000 delays and cancellations. The FAA says it found “no evidence of a cyber-attack or malicious intent.”
