Good News: Pandemic Weight Loss, Tiny Doors, and a Nurse Gets Back to Work

Here are a few more good news stories making the rounds . . .

1.  While everyone else has been gaining weight, a woman in England has lost 118 pounds during the pandemic.  She’s a metal fan, and signed up for a virtual fitness class last March called “Rock Fit,” where you do aerobics to heavy metal music.

2.  Early in the pandemic, a nurse in Detroit named Monique Morris almost died of COVID.  And it hit her so hard, she had to learn to walk again.  But now a year later, she’s back at work treating patients.

3.  Alameda Island is right between San Francisco and Oakland.  And seven years ago, someone started installing tiny doors on trees, where fairies and gnomes supposedly live.  So it’s a joke, but there’s been a big boom in the number of doors this past year.

The woman who keeps track of them says it’s been hard to keep up.  But there’s a map that’s updated regularly now, so people can find them on their walks.

4.  Jersey Mike’s does a charity thing every year called the “Day of Giving,” where locations around the country donate 100% of the day’s sales to charity.  And this year’s Day of Giving set a new record.  1,900 stores took part and donated $15 million, which was almost double their goal.
