Heads Up! International Space Station Expected to Crash into the Pacific Ocean
NASA is planning to retire the International Space Station by bringing it back to Earth — and crashing it into the Pacific Ocean.
That’s the word from NASA officials, who say the ISS will end its time in orbit in 2030, after which it will plummet into a remote part of the ocean known as Point Nemo.
NASA official Phil McAlister is calling the station’s eventual demise a “smooth transition.”
Since it launched in 2000, the ISS has traveled 227 nautical miles outside of Earth’s atmosphere and hosted more than 200 astronauts from 19 countries, NASA reveals.
