The students at Clear Creek Elementary School in Clear Lake are in the final days of a two-week fundraising campaign for the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge. Clear Creek led the entire state of Iowa in 2022, raising $35,271 during the campaign – more than $13,000 more than the No. 2 school.

THE CALL TO ACTION: Help Clear Creek stay No. 1 in the state of Iowa!

  • People in the community who know a student at Clear Creek Elementary should reach out to those families to see how they can make a gift. The fundraising takes place online. Participating students will send emails to their contacts with information on how to donate.

DEEP DIVE: The students at Clear Creek raised more dollars than any other school in the state in 2022 – and it wasn’t even close. By raising $35,271, Clear Creek bested the next closest school by $13,421. This year, the school’s goal is to raise $35,000. They need to raise a little more than $15,000 to meet their goal by the close of the campaign on March 3. You can track their progress at www.heart.org/KHC.

ABOUT KIDS HEART CHALLENGE: Kids Heart Challenge is a program designed to support student long-term mental and physical health while raising funds to support the mission of the American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all. The program offers a variety of physical activities to get elementary students’ hearts pumping – like dance, basketball or jumping rope, paired with digital missions to learn life-saving skills like Hands-Only CPR™ and how to spot a stroke. The program has more than 40 years of proven success rooted in scientific research which showed that kids who are regularly active feel better, improve their mental health, build self-esteem, and decrease and prevent conditions such as anxiety and depression.

WHERE THE DOLLARS GO: Funds raised through the Kids Heart Challenge allow students to support wellness beyond themselves and be a part of the solution by funding making funding research possible on a path to improving cardiovascular health for all. Over the last 5 years, the American Heart Association has funded more than $12.9 million in new research studies at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University. A portion of the funds raised go back to Clear Creek, which plans to purchase new PE equipment.
