Hordes Of Americans Expected To Travel On Memorial Day Weekend
Despite an ongoing pandemic, record gas prices and a boost in the cost of airline tickets, travel on Memorial Day Weekend is expected to be the busiest it’s been in three years.
That’s the word from AAA, which predicts more than 1.7 million Americans will take road trips or fly somewhere this weekend.
The figure, a 7 percent increase over last year, would mark the busiest Memorial Day Weekend since 2017, per AAA.
While gas prices have reached record highs across the country, a 6 percent increase in airfare is expected to keep a majority of Americans on the road instead of in the air this year, AAA officials say. “It’s out of control,” says one traveler. “There’s no way to really stop it.
All you do is save a little here, a little there. Combine trips and keep going.”
