Iowa Says Illinois Students Faked A Charity To Buy Discount Tickets
A ticket controversy is brewing between the University of Iowa and the University of Illinois’ ‘Orange Krush’ student fan group.
It started when the Orange Krush bought 200 tickets for this Saturday’s Iowa-Illinois men’s basketball game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
But on Wednesday, Iowa cancelled those tickets, claiming that they were purchased at group discount under false pretenses – namely, that the tickets were for an Illinois chapter of the Boys & Girls club.
The Orange Krush then released their own statement, insisting the tickets were “purchased legally” and that Iowa’s late decision to cancel left them stuck with a $6,000 charter bus deposit that can’t be refunded.
Iowa says the tickets will instead be donated to a local Boys & Girls club. The Orange Krush say Iowa is afraid to let them in.
