IRS: Tax Refunds will be Delayed this Year
The IRS may have sent out stimulus payments pretty quickly, but if you’ve got a tax refund on the way, it could be a while.
The Internal Revenue Service has revealed the usual three-week wait time for refunds will be more like six to eight weeks this year. That’s because the stimulus payments have kept workers too busy to update all the tax code changes, meaning they’re having to manually process about 29 million returns, according to the National Taxpayer Advocate.
The IRS is warning taxpayers if your refund doesn’t show up, don’t file your tax return a second time; the check will arrive eventually.
The IRS says tax refunds will be delayed for some early filers. According to the National Taxpayer Advocate, the IRS is holding about 29 million returns due to manual processing.https://t.co/enAga9L5PD
