MASON CITY — The Mason City Arena that is part of the River City Renaissance Project has been named as the winner of the Iowa League of Cities “People’s All-Star Award”.
The project was entered into a bracket-style tournament for public voting along with other communities’ projects on the League’s Facebook page. Mason City’s project was named the winner of the tournament on Friday in conjunction with the League’s Annual Conference and Exhibit.
Mason City’s city administrator Aaron Burnett says the award is a tribute to the strong community support for the River City Renaissance development and the positive impact it is having on the downtown area.
The All-Star Community Awards program seeks to acknowledge and encourage excellence in local government and provides an opportunity for officials and staff of member cities to receive recognition for their superior and innovative efforts.
It also provides a means for sharing Iowa’s best public service ideas and demonstrates that those involved with local government are progressive, caring and committed to their communities.
