Physics Professor Mailed $180,000 In Box From Anonymous Donor
An unsigned letter — and a cardboard box full of cash.
That’s what a City College of New York professor found in his office after he returned to in-person teaching in September.
Vinod Menon, the chair of the physics department, was sorting through mail when he spotted a box that was postmarked on November 10, 2020.
When he opened it, there were stacks of $50 and $100 bills adding up to $180,000.
Menon told CNN he was literally “shell shocked.”
A note in the box said the money should go to a junior or senior doing a double major in physics and math who needs financial help to finish out school.
Menon says the anonymous gift will be used to fund two full scholarships every year for the next 10 years.
