Poll: George Washington Retains Status as America’s Favorite Founding Father

While a number of historic figures have fallen out of favor over the past year, apparently George Washington isn’t among them.

A CBS News poll has found the first president of the United States is still the country’s favorite founding father. Washington earns the honor with 39 percent of the vote, the poll reveals.

Coming in second is Benjamin Franklin at 21 percent, followed by Thomas Jefferson with 15 percent of the vote.

And finishing at a very distant fourth is a president who likely owes his votes to a Broadway show: Alexander Hamilton was named as the favorite founding father by 5 percent of the people who were polled, CBS reveals.
