Report: NFL Wants Apple To Pick Up Sunday Ticket Package
The NFL’s Sunday Ticket package will be up for grabs soon – and the league is hoping Apple will pick up the tab.
According to a report by The Athletic’s Daniel Kaplan, the league would prefer Apple to buy the Sunday Ticket once DirectTV’s deal expires after the 2022/23 season.
Per Kaplan, Apple could potentially offer different service tiers – like allowing fans to buy individual games, or choose one out-of-market team’s games.
DirectTV currently pays about $1.5 billion per year for the package, but the new owner will likely have to pay upwards of $2 billion.
Amazon has also been rumored to be a potential buyer.
