Severe Thunderstorms Later Today and Tonight. Damaging winds, large hail and locally heavy rainfall possible.

Severe storms are forecast with two rounds of storms possible across portions of Iowa today into tonight. The first round will move through this afternoon with the main timing window between 1pm and 5pm with damaging wind gusts and large hail the main threats.

The strongest wind gusts may approach 75 mph near the Minnesota border with higher confidence in these wind gusts north of Iowa. A tornado cannot be ruled out over northern Iowa.

The second round of storms is not as certain, but if it does develop, large hail and damaging wind gusts would be possible generally after 7pm through about midnight.

Locally heavy rainfall may occur with either round of storms, but widespread flash flooding is not expected. If you have outdoor plans today, stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
