The Dirtiest Produce At The Grocery Store And How To Clean Each One
Before the pandemic, most people didn’t think twice about cleaning their produce, but now it’s a different story.
According to “Taste of Home”, there are the “dirty dozen”, which they refer to as the 12 fruits and veggies that are the dirtiest in the produce section. By dirtiest, they mean germs, pesticide residue, etc.
Strawberries – rinse in saltwater
Spinach – fill a large bowl with cold water and swish the greens around in it
Nectarines – soak in baking soda and water for 12-15 mins
Apples – use a soft bristled brush to gently scrub the outside
Grapes – put grapes in a bowl and sprinkle with salt and baking soda
Peaches – rinse in water using your hands
Kale, Collard, Mustard Greens – rinse same as spinach
Cherries – soak in water and distilled white vinegar for 15 mins
Pears – mix lemon juice, vinegar and water, put in a spray bottle and spritz
Tomatoes – rub tomatoes under cold water for 30-60 seconds
Celery – rinse in water
Peppers – rinse in cold or lukewarm water
