Ball Drops On An Empty Times Square
New York’s iconic Times Square was mostly empty as the ball dropped to ring in 2021. New York’s Seventh Avenue was barricaded off, but small groups of partygoers – some wearing glittery masks – gathered around the perimeter to celebrate.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray pushed the button to start the ball drop. Most of the TV networks kept their cameras pointed upwards to avoid shots of the empty streets below.
