Bank Error Leaves Family $50B Richer

A Louisiana family got to be billionaires for four days after their bank accidentally deposited $50 billion into the mom’s account. Yes, 50 billion.

“I’m like, ‘Where did that come from?’,” Darren James recalls saying after looking at his wife’s balance. “And all we were thinking was who’s going to be knocking on our door — because we don’t know anybody with that type of money to begin with.”

James, who says he never so much as entertained the idea of keeping the money, says he notified Chase Bank officials immediately — but it took them four days to reverse the sizeable deposit.

“It was a great feeling while it was there to see that many zeroes in your account,” the 47-year-old Baton Rouge resident says. “It was pretty neat to see what it looked like.”
