For Some Veterans, Fireworks Can Trigger PTSD
Millions of Americans will set off fireworks this weekend – which can be difficult for veterans struggling with PTSD.
On Marine veteran, Brent Larson, described it to Michigan TV station WOOD: “It brings you back there. The sights, the smells, the memories… it brings you back to the most horrific things that you’ve ever experienced”.
He said the worst are “the late night ones that wake you out of your dead sleep, when you can’t be prepared for it”. He asks that anyone with a veteran living in their neighborhood be respectful and avoid setting off fireworks late at night.
With the Fourth of July weekend approaching, Larsen wants to remind people that for veterans with PTSD, fireworks can trigger traumatic events from their past.https://t.co/4wXpG7pQsr
